A Wood – fired Oven?  Why?

This is the question I am often asked.  And here is my answer:

In this day and age of forever changing modern technology, and the power of life and death (i.e. water, heat, fuel etc) being in the hands of a few, I have begun to feel that I want to be more in control of the basics in my life.  Many of us remember the strikes that left us without power or heat in the 1970’s and 1980’s, and who knows what will happen in the future.  With this in mind, Erik and myself bought a log-burning, cast-iron stove for our lounge 2 years ago, and are now quite expert at making our logs last a long time, which helps our heating bill.

So it seemed like a natural progression, when I first saw a double-skinned, clay, outdoor oven. It could offer me a cooking facility, with more control in my own hands providing I had a generous supply of logs, as well as a great deal of fun.  To read more about ‘Why a wood-fired oven’, click here.
