Well, this is it! Summer! At last it has come to East Yorkshire (and the rest of the UK) with temperatures so warm and humid that make our bones feel very happy. Two weeks of it so far, and enjoying every minute of it. How long it will last, no-one knows. But we are sure making the most of every minute!
Next, the Hornsea Mere Cafe (again)! The huge choice on the Blackboard Breakfast Menu at our favourite early morning Breakfast cafe. Imagine a warm summer morning, a faint heat mist hovering over this inland lake, hinting at the promise of a very warm day. Eating Breakfast outside is a brilliant option, but the Cafe inside is also great fun. The Blackboard menu does change, and there is another Blackboard for light lunches, salads, cakes, sandwiches, endless choices of Coffee, Chocolate, soft drinks and wine.
Next, me, looking surprised. Erik doesn’t take my photo very often. (Our first ever holiday together was spent in Florence, Italy, for a fortnight. Erik spent the whole of the holiday snapping stone lions in various poses, and hardly any of me. I’m remember thinking that he wasn’t very romantic, but as I came to know him better, I realised he had a photographer’s eye for the unusual, and he also was very romantic!)
After our breakfasts, we took Martie to see the ducks, geese and the Black Swan.
And in this weather, who can resist a paddle in the sea at Hornsea early in the morning?
With all this Summer food and sun, there needs to be a gentle, quiet place to relax out of the sun, and in the middle of the garden, we have ample spaces to hide away from the sunshine if we need to.
So, we are enjoying a great deal of Summer Food and Sun and making the most of it as we are in the throes of planning our Kitchen Garden, and our alterations to the house. I keep trying to shut out of my mind the amount of dust and dirt we will have to live with, and I tell myself to just think of the end product – a lovely house. In the picture above, I often go and sit on the green swing on the left, and just swing there for five minutes, musing at how the house and garden will look in a year’s time. Now that brings a big smile to my face. So watch this space, particularly for news of our Kitchen Garden, but also of my new Kitchen and our new Garden Room. Just can’t wait!
