Cabbage – Healthy Recipe Revelation:

Chef Jason Atherton, on TV, opened my eyes to not wasting any of a cabbage, including the stalk.  He showed us how to cook a Cabbage in a healthy steamed recipe that tasted fabulous – a real revelation!

Healthy Cabbage Recipe

Ingredients

  • One Cabbage

Method

  1. Take one Cabbage, mine was Hispi, the pointed one, take off outer leaves,
  2. Cut cabbage top to bottom (with a strong knife) into chunky slices (about 2cm or 1 inch),
  3. Steam for approx 6-8 minutes, drain,
  4. Then heat a knob of butter in a frying pan, (I added some Ras al Hanout spice (Chinese 5 Spice would also be great) and gently fry cabbage slices for few minutes each side, until lightly scorched.

This Cabbage was still bright green, buttery and spicy, tender and so tasty.  Even the stalk was tender, and Erik and I were won over. It just never occurred to me that you could eat the stalks as well. We ate it with our crispy-skinned Beer Can Roast Chicken, and were very well pleased!

Isn’t it just great to learn something new, and the Cabbage Recipe was indeed a healthy Recipe Revelation.
